What Makes a Good Sports Picture? Part 1 - One-on-One Isolation

What makes a good sports picture? There are dozens of elements that contribute towards a solid sports picture.

Let's kick off this series with an element that will make your action images look much, much better.

One-on-One Action

Seeing two players face off against each other invites the viewer to see the action quickly. And if you choose the right photo, it helps tell the story of the game.

Sometimes this happens in camera. Other times, it can be done by cropping your image in post production.

Here's an example from that amazing, 2009 catch that Alshon Jeffery made on a wildcat play against Clemson. (Photo by Travis Bell/SIDELINE CAROLINA)

See that one-on-one isolation?

Works every time.

Be patient. It takes time to master this.
