Gear for Capturing Action Images of Kids and Athletes Outside

Goal: Create outdoor, action images of kids running, laughing, playing and all of their never-ending tomfoolery.

This is also a nice setup for photographing athletes outside.

Check out video below for settings.

Recommended Camera:

CANON Rebel T7i or T8i

Why? Best camera for the investment and the autofocus system is fast enough to track any activity or sport. The 6 frames-per-second rate on the 7i or 7 frames-per-second rate on the 8i is great for shooting sports. Built-in Wi-Fi, so you can send pictures from your camera.

Recommended Lens

CANON 70-200 f/4 IS Lens

Why? Made to last years. Can track any activity or sport outdoors in daylight. Sharp images. Light enough to hand hold but can be mounted to a monopod if you're shooting for a long time.

The best part? This lens, when mounted to the Rebel, becomes a 110-320 mm lens, great for any sport!

WORTH NOTING

The Rebel body listed above can easily track action at night but I don't recommend the 70-200/f4 lens for indoor or nighttime, outdoor sports. Get the 70-200/f2.8 for indoor and nighttime, outdoor sports.

VIDEO

Here's a quick video tutorial about setting up your Rebel camera for daylight activities. Depending on which model Rebel you have, the back of your screen make look different but the settings are the same for any model.
