How do I Freeze the Rain in My Photos?

GOAL: Make the rain freeze in the air.

OUTLOOK: Rain, rain, go away....wait...rain can add amazing texture to your images.

If you're ever shooting sports in the rain, first, grab a rain jacket, then, set your shutter speed higher.

The rain in this football image stands out because it was created at 1/3200th shutter speed. It was also sharpened about 20% more than usual in Photoshop. That makes the drops of rain stand out more.

Here are the stats.

Lens: 400mm

Mode: Shutter Priority

ISO: 800

Shutter: 1/3200th

Aperture: f/3.5

Rain Jacket: Yes!

Lens Rain Cover: Think Tank Photo Emergency Rain Covers for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras with up to a 600mm f/4 Lens - Large

Want to become faster at capturing amazing sports images? Here are three sports to shoot that will help you grow.
