NBA Tells Photographers To Wait For The Moment

NBA Photos is encouraging its still photographers to dial back on shooting so many images.

Digital mirrorless cameras are now firing more frames per second than traditional motion picture cameras that are used to create movies.

The pro basketball league is asking its photographers to "wait for the moment", as seen in a recent email to freelance photographers that cover the NBA and WNBA. (NBA Photos also manages photography for the WNBA)

The email also asks for shooters to not "rapid fire so much" and to consider quality over quantity.

In other words, there's no need to create 240 images or more in 10 seconds of a player driving from the top of the key to the basket.

NBA Photos wants more consideration for capturing peak moments by its photographers

Why? The league has dozens of editors working daily that sort through tens of thousands of images from games around the country. The recent increase in frames per second from new digital cameras has overloaded editors with too many photos to view.
